Choosing A Career In Nursing

Nursing is one of the most fulfilling health care careers a person could get involved in. Not only is it a career that allows a person to help others in their community, but improves upon patience and other virtues. If you have been considering joining in the nursing field then it is important to know not only what is expected, but the kind of pay for those who enter the nursing field.

Most it seems like to start with something that will give them a feel for the environment of a nurse, so they will start out as a CNA, and then go for further schooling to be a nurse. What are the duties of a CNA? A CNA which is short for certified nursing assistant, has the responsibility of helping a nurse by almost any means. This may involved clothing a patient, and other duties that can require 2 people at a time. In order to become a nurses assistant, a person must go through several weeks of CNA training to get certified. A CNA can make usually between 10-13 dollars per hour.

For those wanting to even further their careers and make more money, a nursing degree is usually the next step. This can take up to a couple years, but is well worth it. The pay increases by about 3 times as much as a CNA, and having a nursing degree will allow you to become much more of an asset to hospitals and doctors at just about any location in the world.

Nurses have a lot of stress at their jobs however, and this stress is due to the fact that there are not enough nurses for the work available out in the medical field. With under-staffing at many hospitals, it can put a strain on those who are currently nurses, or entering the field for the first time.

This also leads to long shifts well beyond 12 hours. If a person is not sharp enough to handle this work load it ca also lead a person to be less efficient with their job. This is why it really takes a special type of person to be a nurse. Someone that deals well with stress and with people on a minute by minute basis.

If you have been thinking about joining the ranks of a nurse, then you may well want to ask yourself whether this is truly the field you want to join. If so then you should check with local colleges to see what courses are available for the type of nursing degree you are wishing to obtain.
